Longwood Gardens Fountains and Fireworks worth going to?
It is $98 for two adults and a child. Has anyone been to the event and is it worth the money?
We live right near Longwood and have gone several times to the fountain/fireworks evenings. It is an amazing experience if you like the music that night. Sometimes I haven't cared for the music, so it's been less than magical.
It's expensive, yes, but it does include admission to the gardens for the day. There's a wonderful Children's Garden in the Conservatory -- great for kids 10 and under, I'd say. Lotsa water to splash in, so you might want to bring dry clothes for your child. Outside, there are fabulous tree houses to explore. Not to mention just acres and acres to run around in. There's a picnic area, so you can pack a meal and keep those costs to a minimum.
The biggest downside to going is the unpredictable weather. When rain is forecast, they don't cancel. They wait to see, and we've stood under umbrellas waiting 45 min. past the scheduled start, then finally when the storm passed, they decided to do the show. By then a lot of people had given up and gone home. Conversely you could have the show cancelled and find that none of the rain dates fit your schedule . . . and I don't think they refund.

The previous answer was about Mother's Day, and there are no fireworks on Mother's Day. I'm not sure about fountains, but I don't think there are nighttime fountains either. So it doesn't answer your question. I happen to agree, actually, that Mother's Day there is pretty miserable -- it's one of the two or three most-crowded days all year.
