Does anyone have really good directions from the Merritt Parkway in CT to New York City?
I'm driving to NYC for the first time and want to take the Merritt Parkway rather than I-95. Does anyone have detailed directions so I don't get lost? Thank you so much!
Going to Broadway NYC
Start driving west on the parkway. When it crosses from CT into Westchester County, it changes name to Hutchinson River Parkway. Keep going, but turn on your radio to 1010 AM or 880 AM. The Hutchinson River Parkey does go to New York City, but not to Broaday. Depending on which route is not described on the radio as having a major traffic backup due to accidents, congestion, construction, etc., either
a. Take the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Bruckner Expressway, I-278; take that west; it changes number to I-895; keep going; Get off at the Triboro Bridge; Get on the Triboro bridge; Get in the lane for Manhattan (not Queens); at the end of the bridge, get on the southbound FDR drive, not the northbound Harlem River Driver; get off the FDR drive at 53rd street; follow 53rd street to Broadway.
b. Get off the Hutchinson River Parkway at the Cross Country Parkway; Take the Cross County to the Southbound Bronx River Parkway; take the Bronx River Parkway to 177th Street to the southbound Sheridan Expressway, I-895, which changes name to the Bruckner Expressway (when it merges with 278); keep going; Get off at the Triboro Bridge; Get on the Triboro bridge; Get in the lane for Manhattan (not Queens); at the end of the bridge, get on the southbound FDR drive, not the northbound Harlem River Driver; get off the FDR drive at 53rd street; follow 53rd street to Broadway.
c. Get off the Hutchinson River Parkway at the Cross Country Parkway; Take the Cross County to the New York State Thruway, I-87, South; this changes name to the Major Deegan Expressway when it cross into the Bronx; keep going; get off at exit 10, which is 230th St. At the end of the ramp, turn west (right) onto 230th st. When you reach U.S. 9 and Broadway, turn south (left). Be careful to turn onto U.S. 9 and Broadway, not Exterior Street, which is also to the left at the same intersection.
d. Get off the Hutchinson River Parkway at the Cross Country Parkway; Take the Cross County to the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway; take that South; it becomes the Henry Hudson Parkway when it reaches the Bronx; keep going. Get off at exit 23 and go left at the fork in the ramp to turn left (south) onto Broadway.
