Live review: Rufus Wainwright at the Orpheum (OC Register - Soundcheck)
Rufus Wainwright opened his show at the Orpheum Saturday night on a darkened
stage, singing “Candles,” a spare, achingly devotional ballad with with a
heavenly chorus -- a song that warns “it’s always just that little bit more
that doesn’t get you what you’re looking for.” It’s an odd sentiment coming
from a man whose [...]

How Do you Decorate your home for Christmas? Themed or eclectic?
I personally love Tree's that have ornaments that have been collected through the years, because those have the most meaning to me. I put multicolored lights and clear lights on the tree. I usually put up 2 big tree's and 4 or 5 2 foot trees. I love garland where ever I can put it and I decorate that to. I love wreaths all over the house and on the doors of my kid's rooms. I also like collecting Nativity Scene's. I usually start getting thing down from the attic the day after Halloween and finish putting everything up by Thanksgiving. That way I can enjoy the holiday's and festivities. How about it, anyone else crazy for christmas? I would love to hear from you. What things do you collect? What are some of your traditions.
We always do clear/white lights so that they do not detract from the rest of the ornaments. My fiance's family has celebrated with my family for the last 3 years and they have these antique candle holders that go on the branches, so we have added those in. We do a collection of ornaments, some crystal bulbs my future mother in law gave me, and we always put food on the tree like clementines or cookies.
I always make garland! I use it on the stairs, entry ways that have no doors, above windows, on tables. We have lots of candles in the house and use a combination of flowers and greens elsewhere. I put wreaths on the doors and place a nativity scene in the 'tree room'.
I have been collecting Christmas snow globes since I was 2, so those go in the room as well. I have 50 and counting. My fiance has a collection of Christmas books that he inhereted from his grandmother. We make a special shelf with a reading table for those.
I start making the garlands and arrangments the day after thanksgiving. I usually have the gingerbread house done already. We start Christmas parties december 1st of every year. Generally we have at least 4-5 parties leading up to Christmas eve. We have a big party on Christmas eve, go to vigil and on Christmas have a brunch, dinner and all day drop in for family and friends. There is always egg nog, a pot of hot cider on the stove. We also bake bread and pies on Christmas eve and morning. Last year it was 60 loaves of bread (thank goodness for the brick oven) and 52 pies. We gave away 20 of each to friends and the rest were donated to a soup kitchen. All of the kids in the family help with that part and as a reward get to decorate their Ginger bread men.
