Iowa's waterways face a sad future (desmoinesregister)
This spring I have had the good fortune to visit two of our beautiful state
parks, Lacey Keosauqua State Park and Wild Cat Den State Park. What struck me
on these visits was the clarity of the streams that run through these parks.

Sudden storm comin
announced by thunder boomin
lightnin sparked a tree
Nature in it's symphony
Hurry, rush out
let the rain kiss yer lips
fallin.
soak yer flesh hear the callin
washed, cleansed
child
play with youth, dance
giggle as it works, entranced
magic
to dreams awake
as it takes ya to young
when there were silly songs sung
to days when it din't matter
Alice, lookin glass shrunk
the mad hatter
drunk in the splatter
mud soiled dress
who cares scolded, Oh my!
mom knew, smiled
with a soft towel embraced my wild
hugged
dirty shared
Now both felt it, renewed
yowee each in the groove
we watched as it came
passed, "thank you rain"
Hurry again, it's only more rain comin
It's just water, and there are still good
puddles to jump in
I'm not a big fan of poetry, but I liked it. Very nice. Imaginative, distinctive, whimsical, yet coherent (if you take the time to understand that it's about a young, likely girl, reminiscing about a pleasant experience she shared with her mother during a Summer rain). Don't let anyone tell you you can't write poetry or that you should change your style!
